Snow SC100 Cello

$3,399.00

Snow instruments are crafted with exceptional care in Xueping Hu’s acclaimed workshop. Each piece is personally delivered to our New York shop by Hu’s team, ensuring top-quality standards and attention to detail.

Xueping Hu is a master Chinese luthier celebrated for blending traditional artistry with innovation. After apprenticing under Quan Zheng in the 1980s, Hu established his Beijing workshop in 1993. He specializes in violins, violas, and cellos, incorporating aged European wood, golden-brown varnish, and refined techniques inspired by Stradivari and Italian models. His cellos, including Montagnana and Guadagnini copies, are especially valued for their rich, expressive tones and smaller size.

Hu’s instruments have earned global recognition, with Yo-Yo Ma praising one of his cellos in a 2004 performance with the Silk Road Ensemble. In 2006, he received a Certificate of Merit for Violin Tone from the Violin Society of America.

Snow’s 100 series reflects this dedication to quality. Designed as a “basic” model, it still features carefully cured wood and expert craftsmanship, making it an outstanding choice for its price. Higher-level models are equally impressive, offering breathtaking artistry and sound.
